Many authors of Jatropha claims that Jatropha Curcas is resistant to drought and can be planted even in desert climates and it thrives on any type of soil, grows almost anywhere; in sandy, gravelly and saline soils. Needs minimal input or management. Does not contain pests and diseases. It will not be browsed by cattle or sheep. Can survive long periods of drought. Jatropha Propagation is easy. The Jatropha Curcas is growing rapidly. Jatropha Curcas starts yielding from the second year onwards and continues for 40 years. Jatropha Curcas quickly establishes itself and will produce seeds round the year if irrigated.

We as PT rti do not like chasing rainbows and search at the end of these fairy tales for the promised gold pot. What has been claimed by many authors is only partially true, but the most important conclusion is, that the plant give fruits/seeds in many of these conditions is doubtful. The yields of seeds development are necessary to make a plantations economically viable and to satisfy investors with a high ROI (return on investment).

Reasons for PT rti to take the necessary time to investigate first what the reasons are and under which conditions are needed the plant will give high yields of seeds. There are many different soil and climatologically conditions and ways plantations are managed. Reasons for PT rti that we just now (in 2007) come with these publications and reports and starting our next up-scaling phases. After 5 years of intensive research and development on our several pilot projects under many different conditions, we think that we now are ready to upscale our pilot projects to larger areas >10.000ha.

Bringing the plant on high yields of fruit/seeds, under several conditions, is not as easy as bringing the plant to grow. Careful planning propagation methods, long term land management and training/ education of the farmers are necessary steps to bring a plantation to economically viable seed production.

As our program is only based on the Indonesian climate and soil conditions, the mention data and methods in our website/report give no guarantee that the same result will be achieve in other countries, with different climatological and soil conditions.
